Unloved by Peter Roche
March 19, 2009 8:57 pm Book ReviewsThis is the true story of Peter, who was brought up in south London by his abusive and very violent parents. Peter was one of ten children who all suffered neglect, cruelty and starvation. He would often search in dustbins for food and sleep on the streets just to avoid the horrors of his home. His parents were very nasty and cruel they didn’t care one bit for their children they would beat them half to death just for the fun of it, Peter noticed that they would always try to avoid hitting him on his face, arms or legs so that no one could see the damage they caused.
Peter was sent to school scruffy and smelly which caused him to be bullied; he was forced to wash in the sink in the classroom in front of all the other school children which humiliated him. He was finally expelled from school when he was fourteen. The life that Peter led landed him in Borstal where he suffered more abuse.
It’s another story of the social services failing to save neglected children. I really enjoyed reading this book, Peter suffered so much cruelty it’s a very sad story which I will never forget.
