She is the author of many bestselling suspense novels. She has written twenty-four books in total which have all been bestsellers in the US and different European countries, all of her books are still in print in 2007, her debut suspense novel, Where Are The Children, is now in its seventy-fifth printing.[1]
Mary began writing when she was fairly young. She worked for several years as a secretary and copy editor, Mary also spent a year as a stewardess for Pan-American Airlines before she left her job to start a family and get married. She helped with the family’s income by writing short stories. Her husband died in 1959, Mary then worked for years writing four-minute radio scripts, until she was convinced by her agent to try writing novels. Her first novel was a fictionalized account of the life of Washington, this however did not sell well, and she decided to leverage her love of mystery/suspense novels. Her suspense novels became very popular, and as of 2007 her books have sold more than 80 million copies in the United States alone
