Just Henry by Michelle Magorian
March 22, 2009 11:02 pm Book ReviewsSet in post- world war two Britain, its 1949 and this is the story of a young boy called Henry. Life’s a bit sad for him as he lost his father in the war, he died a hero, and Henry misses him terribly. He now has a stepfather and stepsister who annoy him very much; Henry often escapes to go to the cinema, something he loves. Whilst in the queue at the cinema he meets Mrs Beaumont who is a big film fan like him. Mrs Beaumont lends Henry a camera which he uses for a school project, also in his group for the project, which Henry isn’t too happy about is Jefferies, Jefferies dad went AWOL during the war, in which Henrys dad died for his bravery, there’s also illegitimately born Pip. Henry soon learns however that friendship is much more important than social stigmas.
When Henry processes the film that he made, he makes a shocking discovery which will change his and his new friend’s lives forever.
A very exciting story, which is very well written and full of detail. I would definitely recommend this book, I absolutely loved it!
