Not without my sisters by Kristina,Celeste & Juliana

Book Reviews No Comments

Kristina, Juliana and Celeste are three sisters who were born into a cult known as ‘The Children of god’. The cult wasn’t anything like what we traditional think of as Christians. The Children of god were put through torture, and disgusting acts of sexual abuse. From 3 years old the girls were treated by their so called guardians as sexual objects for them to do with as they pleased. They weren’t allowed to attend school and were forced to beg for money on the streets. They were beaten for things as innocent as reading a book.

In this book the 3 sisters are reunited, they all suffered horrific acts of mental, physical and sexual abuse. They tell us how they survived and escaped the cult that has taken the lives and innocence of thousands of its members.

The sisters were isolated from society with no known way out. From birth they were taught to obey the way of the cult. Sharing your body was considered the greatest expression of love, no matter what your age.

An amazing book that will have you feeling angry and sad. The story of the 3 sisters is shocking and horrific; it’s amazing that they managed to escape the horrific cult.

When Ghosts Speak by Mary Ann Winkowski

Book Reviews No Comments

Mary Ann Winkowski was born with a very unusual gift, she can talk to ghosts. She first realised she had this unique gift when she was a small girl and spirits started to communicate with her. She has since spent her life helping people who have died to make peace with what has stopped them from crossing over to the next realm. There are many things that stop the departed from crossing over to the next realm, such as unresolved emotions, somewhere they couldn’t leave or a loved one they couldn’t let go of.

Mary shares her incredible experiences of paranormal encounters with us, and teaches us what to do if you feel the presence of a ghost. She worked with Jenifer Love Hewitt for the hit series Ghost Whisperer, as Jenifer’s character in the show can communicate with spirits and so can Mary. She helped Jenifer to understand the spirit world. She goes to Jenifer’s house and talks to the ghosts which share her house, even the one that watches her in the shower!

A very insightful book, which will make you think twice if you’re a non believer. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in ghosts and spirits.

Donnie Brasco; My undercover life in the Mafia by Joseph D Pitsone with Richard Woodley

Book Reviews No Comments

This is the true story of Donnie Brasco who spent five years working undercover with the Mafia as special agent Pitsone for the FBI. He had to become totally involved in Mafia life and act as if he was one of them. This meant spending months at a time away from his wife and young children, he missed out on big parts of his daughters growing up but he was dedicated to his job and it did eventually pay off. He worked under the name of Donnie Brasco, which was a truly believable character. He was very close to a lot of members of the mafia, that close that Lefty Ruggerio even asked him to be best man at his wedding.

Pitstone attending parties with the mafia, ate and drank with them, he did everything he could to fit in and become one of them. He would always get out of the actual highjackings as if the cops turned up they would be armed and someone would get hurt. He helped with the planning and the unloading sometimes he was questioned but the majority of the time Donnie Brasco was as believable as any other mafia member.

An amazing book for anyone interested in the mafia, I would highly recommend.

Getting the Right Furniture for your Books

So, you might have amassed a sizeable collection of books. The next step is to show off your books, this lets people know your tastes and can also add a touch of unique class to a home if done correctly.

There are several different methods of display you can take, choosing the right one for you depends on the type of books, where you will be displaying them and what impression you would like to give people.

First of all, is a standard bookshelf, this is one of the most commonly used storage items. These can be bought on any budget and are a simple and easy way of display books of all types whether young children’s books or classic masterpieces.

If you really want to show off some of your cultural or impressive gatherings then you might opt for the slightly more sophisticated look, such as solid wood or antique bookcases. These can add to the elegance portrayed from certain types of books.

The final, less recommended approach is a cupboard. This is ideal for those collections that you feel do not portray your personality properly or, quite simply, if you just don’t want your books to be on show. The positive gained from this choice is your books are much better protected and are less likely to gather dust or get sun damage.
